June 28 – July 2
Monday –Still Life Drawing - Contour with markers and crayons
Tuesday – Pick a partner and do portraits of each other, using pencils, crayons, paint
Wednesday – Self Portraits using pencils and crayons, as well as (if desired) collaged pieces and/or a symbolic element for likes and interests - i.e. spaguetti for hair etc
Thursday – Landscapes (at wharf, watercolor, weather permitting)
Friday – Landscapes using collaged color paper
July 5 – July 9
Monday – Figure /Ground - Sketch to paint!
Tuesday – Self Portraits - Drawn and painted.
Wednesday – Watercolors! Plein air @ Memorial Wharf (weather permitting)
Thursday – Animals! - Land, Air, and Sea - Inspiration from Audubon, local artist Andrew Moore, Old Masters.
Friday – Landscape Silhouettes!
July 12 – July 16
Monday – Monoprinting! Landscapes, Seascapes. Looking at Edward Hopper, and MVAA artist Sheila Fane.
Tuesday – Watercolors! Plein air @ Memorial Wharf (weather permitting)
Wednesday –Mapping! Map the Island and your home.
Thursday – Abstraction - Painting and drawing to music. Looking at the works of Kandinsky, Klee, Miro and Mondrian.
Friday – Flowers and Bugs! Pastels with charcoal wet and dry.
July 19 – July 23
Theme: Art from Around the World
Monday – Mexican maracas made of paper plates, dried beans or popcorn. Will need paint, crayons etc, stapler, streames optionalComposition and Figures in Space - Mary Cassat, Edgar Degas inspire with pastels.
Japanese Gyataku or fish printing (bring white tee shirt)
Wednesday – African inspired masks using cut milk bottles, paint, streamers, atc
Thursday –Greacian pottery design pieces
Friday – Chinese landscape paintings (examples shown)
July 26 – July 30
Theme: Art inspired by Martha's Vineyard
Monday – Outdoor watercolor projects at the wharf (weather permitting)
Tuesday – Make your own MV post card or trasure map
Wednesday – Create your own map of Martha's Vineyard. The Kids will be shown an actual map and will be free to elaborate from there
Thursday – Painting rocks to make creative paperweights from Martha's Vineyard beaches. Turning a plane rock into a sea creature, or anything the kids find inspirational
Friday – Create your own Martha's Vineyard flag! Using paint, collage techniques etc.
August 2 – August 6
Art with paper
Monday – Marbleized paper using a few rectangular bins of water, colored chalk
Tuesday – Folding accordion books (children may use the paper they made the previous day if desired)
Wednesday – Patchwork quilts. Examples of traditional American quilts shown to inspire the construction of the kids' own versions of paper --learning about geometric patterns
Thursday – Paper mosaic project. Using construction paper, any of the marbleized paper that is left from Monday, magazines, newspaper etc
Friday – Art with tissue paper in the style of children's book illustrator Eric Carle (examples of his work shown)
August 9 – August 13
Monday – Scrimshaw (traditional Vineyard carving in plaster)
Tuesday – Styrofoam printmaking
Wednesday – Paul Klee "scratch art"
Thursday – Batik -- wax painting and dyeing on paper
Friday – Lantern for illuminatipn Night (may need to move depending on date)
Saturday - August 14 – Children's Art Workshop Summer Show at the Gallery!
August 16 – 20
Monday – Looking at Monets's "Lilly Pond" and useing it as an inpiration point to create watercolor pieces
Tuesday – Hokusai's "lillie pond"
Wednesday – Matisse
Thursday – Van Gogh
Friday – Klimt
August 23 – 27
Monday – Setting the Stage - Design and build a small stage after looking at theater and opera sets.
Tuesday – Watercolors with Wax Resist.
Wednesday – Alternative Techniques! - Painting, printing and collages.
Thursday – Puppets! Strings attached - animal and people puppets.
Friday – Paperweight Rock Painting!
